This Bulk is harder than I thought… Time to Stop, Reflect, and Restart
“A failure establishes only this, that our determination to succeed was not strong enough.” – Hoshang N. Akhtar
I think no matter who you are you can accomplish whatever goals you set forth for yourself as long as you are determined. As the quote above accurately states failure equates to lack of determination. I’ve personally hit a bump in the road and I’ve been stuck for a couple of weeks. I’ve had a lot of important testing come up at school that has really gotten in the way of me working out and eating correctly. It started with 1 or 2 missed workouts and a couple of skipped meals and its now spawned to missing 4 or 5 workouts and I haven’t even been getting 3 square meals on most days. It’s been a struggle but I’m not convinced that I’ve been doing enough to break through these minor speed bumps.
Instead of letting myself sink deeper into this rut I have decided to take a stand. I found that when i followed these 3 steps I able to boost some new life into my push to 205lbs.
The first thing I did was I stopped everything I was doing. I found myself sitting around watching T.V. so I turned off the T.V. (to get rid of all distractions) and literally did not move.
I then reflected on on many different aspects of my life. Specifically pertaining to my bulk I reflected on why I wanted to bulk to 205lbs in the first place, why I was letting myself slack off, what positive things I maintained and what negative habits I inherited that resulted in me slacking off. I also considered all the outside factors that I have no control over. For example the amounts of school work and tests that come up that interfere with my workout times and meal times.
After reflecting I took note of the good habits I maintained and the bad habits I needed to modify and I restarted. Now that means I set new goals, set up a new meal plan, new workout routine, and most importantly I wiped the slate clean and painted a new mental picture of what I was trying to achieve.
The great thing about this method is you can use it an unlimited amount of times. If you ever feel the need to jump start yourself out of a slump 1. Stop whatever your doing, eliminate all distracted and fine a quiet place to think 2. Reflect on what it is that cause you to slack off, think of all the positives and negatives and ways you can improve 3. Restart with a new goal or the same goal you had before but with a new sense of purpose
